Chinese Speaking Helpdesk Agent - TCS, Budapest

Jan 2010 - Jul 2012

Starting working from starting midnights till 2 a.m. to cover the workhours in China, Taiwan and HongKong for more than 2 years made me earn the respect of my colleagues and friends and family.

Now looking back of that time I can't imagine how I could survive doing that. When I finished in TCS, I basically ran away. No one stopped me, and the HR colleagues told me that they bet if I would survive 1 year. Well, I won.

I was really afraid that I will not get the job, then I got the job. I was really afraid that I will pass the IT exams, then I passed the exam in Chinese. The colleagues were awesome and supportive and our clients Chinese workers sometimes just called to really hear that a Hungarian native speaking Chinese picking up the hotline in Budapest and really speaks Chinese.

I received calls, emails and chats in Chinese. I offered help, documentation with solution and translation services with L2 support.

If this job would be covering my daytime, I would probably still work in TCS.

In this job I sometimes worked on a freelance base, I started my defence administration education and found my todays wife. Most of the days I was in bed by noon after my shift ended. My takeaway is you can have time for everything that you want. You just need to act on it.
